Officials hope school advocacy will curb child deaths by firearm.
The Department of Education’s Technical Assistance Center released a new resource for U.S. schools on Thursday, outlining ways that school administrations can communicate the importance of proper firearm storage with parents and families. The department reported that 20 percent of childhood deaths can be attributed to guns and that safe storage would reduce the risk.
“We know that keeping guns locked and securely stored is one of the most effective tools we have for keeping kids safe and preventing senseless tragedies,” said Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “The resources released today by the Biden-Harris Administration will empower principals, school officials, and families to better address the issue of safe firearm storage in our communities as we continue to press Congress for greater action on gun violence.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Cardona to be discerning as he facilitates the communication of safe firearm storage.
- For Education Department officials as they collaborate with the White House to reduce the risks of children dying due to guns.
